Home tab

(available on all plans)

The Home tab is perhaps the most minimalistic of all views in Asana. It provides a brief breakdown of Tasks Due Soon and Recent Projects. For tasks to appear in this view, they must meet the following criteria:

  • The task must be assigned to you
  • The task must have a due date within the next five days from the current date
  • The task must be open and not marked complete

My Tasks tab

(available on all plans)

By default, the My Tasks view displays all tasks assigned to you across multiple projects in List format. You can switch to Board and Calendar view to visualize your tasks in different formats.

The page displays Recently Assigned tasks which you can move to different Sections you create. Sections you create in this view will not alter the Sections the task is associated with within a Project. This enables you to customize your task organization method without affecting the structure established by the project team.

Two more notable features in this view are:

  • The Files tab displays all files uploaded to tasks you’re assigned to.
  • The ability to create and set custom rules.

Inbox tab

(available on all plans)

Your Asana Inbox is organized into three tabs:

  1. Activity - A stream of all recent comments and messages you’re an assignee or collaborator on
  2. Archive - All comments and messages you set to archived
  3. Messages I’ve Sent - All comments and messages you have created

Reporting tab

(available on Premium and up)

The Reporting tab is the home for all of your dashboards. You can organize this view in two parts:

  • Favorites where you can favorite your most important dashboards
  • Recents to see dashboards you have recently worked with

You can also create dashboards from this view and include tasks as your source data from an entire Workspace, Team, Portfolio, or Project.

Portfolios tab

(available on Business and up)

Portfolios enable you to track the progress of multiple projects or portfolios in one view. When creating a new Portfolio, set a name and select the projects or portfolios using the + Add Work button. Projects and other portfolios will be listed on-screen with fields you can customize to suit your needs.

You can also view your Portfolio items in Timeline view, write a status update using the Progress tab, and allocate team member workload across projects using the Workload view.

Goals tab

(available on Business and up)

Goals are a great way to tie projects and portfolios to strategic objectives and track how project work is impacting an organization’s bottom line. You can take goal tracking even further to include sub-goals, and tie projects and portfolios as well. Include a description for each goal, add collaborators, parent goals, and create brief status updates with a percentage of completion.
